What started as an idea over a drink in the Sundial pub has grown into a thriving community of runners in Bury.
Around three years ago, we realised there wasn’t a local running group in East or Central Bury—the nearest being Ramsbottom RC and Radcliffe RC. So, we put out a simple message on Facebook: anyone up for a Thursday evening 5k social run, meeting at Clarence Park Lido?
On a cold January evening, seven people showed up—and just like that, Clarence Runners was born.
With the support of Bury Council, we’ve been able to train run leaders, build our community, and create our distinctive “ducks on the run” identity.
The emphasis has always been on providing a social run for all abilities and that anyone can come and give it a go, without any intimidation or fear of being left behind. We stick together and support each other to get out exploring our beautiful trails, get a bit of exercise and meet some like minded people.
Whether you’re a complete beginner, returning to running, or already experienced, you’ll find a warm welcome with us.
Thanks to our amazing run leaders and volunteers, Clarence Runners continues to grow as Bury’s friendly community running group for everyone.
So why not come along, lace up your trainers, and see for yourself?
Because remember… you never regret a run.
Nick
